IF Jazz Café & Restaurant – Budapest
Complete Restaurant Concept Development, Brand Identity, Business & Operations Consulting
For many years, IF Jazz Café & Restaurant has been one of Budapest’s best-known jazz venues and a well-established destination within the city’s hospitality scene. The owners set out to completely transform the restaurant and jazz club on Ráday Street while preserving its unique atmosphere, heritage and long-standing reputation.
Welldon Consulting was commissioned to develop a comprehensive concept covering every aspect of the project, including brand strategy, visual identity, restaurant operations, guest experience and business development. In addition to the creative direction, our team played an active role in shaping the operational framework of the restaurant and supporting the entire reopening process.
The project included the development of a complete brand identity system, new communication materials, restaurant graphics, operational procedures and strategic business recommendations. Throughout the implementation phase, we also provided continuous on-site professional support to ensure that the approved concepts were successfully translated into reality.

Beyond the creative work, particular attention was given to improving operational efficiency, enhancing the guest experience and establishing a sustainable long-term business model.
Throughout the entire project, Welldon Consulting acted as a strategic partner, bringing together branding, restaurant operations, interior design and project management into one integrated development process.
Initial status of the project
During the first phase of the project, we carried out a comprehensive on-site assessment to document the building’s existing condition, identify its potential, and evaluate the technical constraints that would shape the subsequent design process. At that stage, the IF Jazz Club was undergoing a complete renovation. The interior had been almost entirely stripped back, while mechanical, electrical, and construction works were taking place simultaneously throughout the building. As neither the final spatial layout nor the interior design elements had yet been defined, the entire concept had to be developed from the ground up.
Throughout the site visits, we not only documented the existing conditions but also worked closely with contractors and engineering consultants to ensure that the future branding and interior design concepts would be fully aligned with the technical implementation. This close collaboration ensured that our creative vision remained both practical and achievable throughout the construction process.

.
Technical Design & Functional Space Planning
Once the interior design concept had been finalised, the project moved into the detailed technical design phase. At this stage, every decision was driven by operational requirements, ensuring that functionality became just as important as aesthetics.
We developed detailed floor plans for each level of the venue, incorporating the lighting concept, electrical layouts, mechanical systems, decorative elements, furniture placement, and the overall spatial organisation. Different lighting zones—including general illumination, ambient lighting, stage lighting, and decorative accent lighting—were carefully designed to create two distinct atmospheres: a refined restaurant environment during the day and a professional jazz club setting in the evening.
Particular attention was paid to guest circulation, staff workflows, optimal table layouts, and the efficient use of space. Our objective was to create an interior that is visually appealing, comfortable, and economically efficient to operate. The result is a functional layout that supports smooth day-to-day operations while consistently delivering a premium guest experience over the long term.

Construction & Project Coordination
Following the approval of the technical plans, the construction phase began, transforming the previously developed concept into reality. Throughout the entire implementation process, Welldon Consulting provided continuous on-site project coordination, ensuring that all contractors and disciplines worked in accordance with the approved plans and project objectives. During this phase, the mechanical and electrical systems were completed, together with the plasterboard structures, restroom facilities, kitchen service areas, and all major flooring, wall finishes, and surface treatments. At the same time, work progressed on the installation of the lighting system, the preparation of decorative elements, and the execution of the bespoke interior design features that define the venue’s unique character.
Throughout the construction process, particular emphasis was placed on ensuring that every aspect of the project met the operational requirements of a modern hospitality venue. Regular site inspections, close collaboration with contractors, and continuous technical supervision ensured that the original creative vision was translated into a high-quality finished environment without compromising functionality or build quality. As construction progressed, the visual concepts gradually came to life, and within just a few months the building site was transformed into a distinctive contemporary jazz club and restaurant—one that successfully combines timeless atmosphere, modern functionality, and an exceptional guest experience.

Brand Identity & Communication
Alongside the construction phase, we developed the complete visual identity and brand guidelines for IF Jazz Café, creating a consistent framework for all online and offline brand communications. Our objective was to establish a timeless and distinctive visual identity that reflects the elegance of jazz culture, the energy of contemporary hospitality, and the unique character of IF Jazz Café.
As part of the project, we designed a comprehensive logo system, including all primary and secondary logo variations, usage guidelines, clear space requirements, minimum size specifications, and monochrome versions. We also defined the brand’s typography, colour palette, and core visual communication principles to ensure a consistent and recognisable identity across every touchpoint.
The Brand Guidelines provide detailed standards for both printed and digital communications, including:
- Logo usage guidelines and construction grid
- Primary and secondary colour palettes
- Typography hierarchy and font specifications
- Visual communication principles and colour application
- Social media and campaign design templates
- Poster and event promotion concepts
- Food, beverage, and wine menu designs
- Business cards, gift cards, and loyalty cards
- Merchandise applications (apparel, glassware, packaging, and promotional materials)
- Interior branding and environmental graphics
- Custom iconography and graphic elements
- Print production and digital application standards
The completed Brand Guidelines serve as far more than a graphic design manual—they provide the foundation for a comprehensive brand communication system that ensures IF Jazz Café maintains a consistent, professional, and recognisable presence across every communication channel. The following pages present a selection of highlights from the brand guidelines.

Grand Opening
And finally, the vision became reality. In June 2026, IF Jazz Club officially opened its doors to the public. Within just a few months, an empty commercial space had been transformed into a distinctive live music venue and social destination, where exceptional cuisine meets the timeless atmosphere of live jazz. The photographs on the following pages capture the venue after its opening—when the concept came to life and the space began fulfilling its true purpose. What was once a construction site had become a vibrant jazz club, welcoming guests with a unique blend of sophisticated design, outstanding hospitality, and unforgettable live performances.
The successful completion of the project reflects the close collaboration between designers, engineers, contractors, and the client, demonstrating how a shared vision can be transformed into a destination with a strong identity and lasting appeal.
